Inden Cases

Inden
These traditional hand-made crafts are made from deerskin lacquered with various intricate patterns. These cases are made with a special technique from Japan's only traditional tanning arts, passed down over 13 generations. These techniques were developed from the making of armor during the Sengoku period, and during the Edo Period were used for cigarette cases and pouches. In modern times, these techniques are mostly used for wallets, handbags and other various items.
