It is sung of in the folk song, Ise-ondo, "Ise is held by Tsu, Tsu is held by Ise, Owari-Nagoya is held by the Castle," and together with Osaka Castle and Kumamoto Castle, is one of the Three Great Famous Castles of Japan. The golden shachi (mythological fish with the head of a tiger) on the roof of the castle are a famous symbol of both the castle and Nagoya City.
