Kamikochi is part of the Chubu Sangaku National park, 1,500m above sea level, and recognized as a national cultural treasure (having received Special Scenic Location and Special Natural Monument statuses). It also includes hot springs, and mountain climbing base camps for the Hotaka and Yarigatake Mountains.
